MDCAT 2026: the questions students actually ask

How many MCQs are in the MDCAT?
180 multiple-choice questions in 3 hours - Biology 81, Chemistry 45, Physics 36, English 9, Logical Reasoning 9. Those figures are read off the official PMDC curriculum document, not estimated. Several sites ranking for this question currently publish 200 or 210 MCQs, which is wrong, so check any figure you are given against the source.
Is there negative marking in the MDCAT?
No - there is no negative marking. So leaving a question blank is never better than guessing. On a four-option MCQ a blind guess is worth a quarter of a mark on average, and an educated guess after eliminating one option is worth more. Never leave an answer empty.
What are the MDCAT passing marks?
99 out of 180 (55%) for MBBS, and 90 out of 180 (50%) for BDS. Passing is only the eligibility bar, not the admission bar - admission is decided on merit aggregate, which is usually far above it.
How many MDCAT marks do I need for MBBS?
There is no fixed number - it depends on your aggregate, not your MDCAT score alone. Admission runs on 10% Matric, 40% FSc and 50% MDCAT, so the score you need depends on your school marks and on where closing merit lands that year. When is MDCAT 2026?
Sunday 16 August 2026 for the PMDC national MDCAT. NUMS is a separate test on 23 August 2026. Some sites list 23 August as the MDCAT date - that is the NUMS date, and the two are different exams with different syllabi and separate registrations.
How difficult is the MDCAT paper?
PMDC specifies the mix: 15% easy, 70% moderate, 15% difficult. So most of the paper is meant to be answerable. Marks are lost far more often to time pressure and careless reading than to genuinely hard questions, which is why practising under a clock matters more than hunting for harder material.
What is the difference between the MCAT and the MDCAT?
The MCAT is American and taken after a degree; the MDCAT is Pakistan's test, set by PMDC and taken after FSc. They share no syllabus, format or scoring, and MCAT material is not useful preparation for the MDCAT. The MDCAT covers Biology, Chemistry, Physics, English and Logical Reasoning for entry to MBBS and BDS.
Has the MDCAT 2026 syllabus changed?
No - PMDC has confirmed 2026 is identical to 2025. So any 2025 material and every paper sat under that syllabus is fully valid preparation. Older papers are a different matter: the 2025 revision removed some topics, and we label questions on removed topics so you do not spend time on material that can no longer be examined.
Are MDCAT past papers still worth doing?
Yes - they are the highest-yield thing you can do with the time you have left. The syllabus is unchanged, question styles repeat closely, and working through real papers under time shows you which chapters actually cost you marks. That is more useful than re-reading notes you already understand.
