MDCAT Weightage: The Numbers Most Sites Get Wrong
Biology 81, Chemistry 45, Physics 36, English 9, Logical Reasoning 9. A large share of what circulates gets every one of these wrong and omits a section entirely. Here is the primary-source version.
The short answer
- The correct split: Biology 81, Chemistry 45, Physics 36, English 9, Logical Reasoning 9 — 180 total.
- A commonly circulated version says Biology 40% / Chemistry 30% / Physics 20% / English 10%. Every figure is wrong and it omits Logical Reasoning.
- PMDC confirmed the 2026 paper is unchanged from the 2025 curriculum document.
- There is no official chapter-wise weightage. PMDC publishes at subject level only — every per-chapter table you have seen is someone's estimate.
- The difficulty mix is specified: 15% easy, 70% moderate, 15% difficult. So ~126 questions are moderate, and that is where the marks are.
- Check any source against the primary document. If a page says 200 or 210 questions, it is describing an older cycle.

- If a page has no Logical Reasoning section, it is out of date or copied from something that was.
- If a page gives per-chapter question counts, see the next section — those are not published by anyone.
There is no official chapter-wise weightage
This matters because candidates plan skips around those tables. Deciding not to study a chapter because a website assigned it two questions is a decision made on invented data.
The legitimate substitute is observed frequency in real past papers — how often a topic has actually been examined, labelled as evidence rather than authority, with the sample size stated. That is a genuine planning input and an honest one, and it is what most repeated topics reports.
What the real figures mean for your timetable
- Biology is 45% of the paper. It should be a similar share of your revision time, and in most self-made timetables it is not.
- Chemistry at 25% is worth less than many candidates give it, largely because of the wrong weightage table above.
- English and Logical Reasoning are 18 marks combined — about 2.5 aggregate points, and the most commonly abandoned. Why they are worth taking.
- 70% of the paper is moderate difficulty — roughly 126 questions. Marks are lost in that band far more often than in the hardest 15%.
- No negative marking means the correct blank count is zero, always.
