The Last 24 Hours Before MDCAT: Mostly Do Less
By the day before, almost everything you can do has negative expected value. The exceptions are logistics, light familiar review and an early night. Here is the list, and what to actively avoid.
The short answer
- MDCAT 2026 is Sunday 16 August, 10:00 AM. Plan the morning backwards from that.
- Do not sit a full mock. Nothing measured now can be acted on, and a low score does damage you cannot repair.
- Do not start anything new. A topic learned today displaces recall of things you already had.
- Do review lightly and only what you already know — formulae, definitions, your own error list.
- Sort documents, route and timing today, not in the morning. This is the highest-value work left.
- Stop early. One poor night is survivable; a 2am cram followed by a poor night is two problems.

Why the answer is subtractive
With a day left, the set of actions with positive expected value is small, and the set with negative expected value is large and tempting. That asymmetry is the whole reason this is worth writing down in advance — you will not reason well about it tomorrow.
| Do | Do not |
|---|---|
| Confirm documents, centre location and travel time. | Sit a full-length mock. |
| Light review of formulae and definitions you already know. | Start a topic you have not covered. |
| Skim your own error log from previous papers. | Work through a new question bank. |
| Set out everything needed for the morning. | Compare preparation with friends. |
| Eat normally. Stop studying early. | Cram until 2am. |
The logistics, which are the real work left
Settle all of this today, not tomorrow morning
- Documents. Check exactly what your roll number slip and the official notification require, and put them together tonight.
- Centre location. Confirm the address and look at how to get there. Do not discover it in the morning.
- Travel time, with a wide margin. Assume traffic. The paper starts at 10:00 AM.
- Who is taking you, and when you leave. Agreed tonight, not negotiated at breakfast.
- Clothes and permitted items, laid out. Fewer decisions tomorrow is the goal.
- Alarm set, and a second one.
What light review actually means
"Light review" gets ignored because it sounds like doing nothing. It has a specific meaning: material you already hold, in a form you can skim — not learning, retrieving.
- Your own error log, if you kept one. The single most targeted thing available, because it is a list of your own mistakes.
- Formulae and constants — Physics and Chemistry, the things that are pure recall and go first under pressure.
- Definitions and terminology you have confused before, particularly Biology terms that look similar.
- Your section order and abandon rule. Decide them now so no decision is made under time pressure — why that matters.
The morning
Get up with enough margin that nothing is rushed
Rushing is the state in which documents get left behind.
Eat something
The paper is 180 minutes. Sitting it hungry is a self-inflicted handicap.
Do not revise a weak topic
It will not land, and it raises anxiety at exactly the wrong moment. If you must hold something, hold formulae.
Arrive early
Time in the room settling is worth more than time in the car revising.
Do not discuss the paper with anyone beforehand
Last-minute predictions and rumours in a queue have never helped anyone.
After the paper
Score yourself against the key properly, and convert it into a merit aggregate rather than a raw percentage — the number admissions actually uses.

Put it into practice
Reading about the paper is not sitting one. A plan unlocks every past paper solved question by question, the full-length 180-question mock on the real 81/45/36/9/9 split, and all five sectionals — each sittable once a day between now and exam day.
- Every test, once a day — no attempt limit
- Every answer key and explanation
- Weak-chapter report after each attempt
- Covers a retake, if it comes to that
